Qandil Preaches New War Recipe: Qaida in Lebanon to Fight U.S. Warships
Ex-MP Nasser Qandil, a staunch pro-Syrian figure, claimed Friday that the United Sates in sending its warships to Lebanon to “tell us we’ve killed (Hizbullah’s) Imad Mughniyeh and we’ve made a come back, Imad.”
Qandil also claimed that the head of Saudi Arabia’s national Security Council, Prince Bandar Bin Sultan, wants Lebanon to become “a haven for al-Qaida replacing Iraq, which means that the arrival of American warships aims at inviting the Arab Jihadists from Iraq to ease the pressure imposed on the American Army.”
Qandil made his allegations during a news conference organized at his Beirut office in the Hizbullah-controlled district of Zokak Blatt.
The United States had accused Mughniyeh, among other crimes, of orchestrating the 1983 suicide bomb attack against the Marine base near Beirut airport, which resulted in killing hundreds of U.S. servicemen.
Qandil blamed the United States for the Mughniyeh assassination in Damascus on Feb. 12.
Qandil also said he has “evidence enough to conclude that the Americans were behind Mughniyeh’s assassination.”
“The (U.S) reserve force comes now, which means that the zero hour for the major confrontation that the majority has planned for is close. The majority would be backed by the Americans, who would not fight, but would provide logistical support and artillery cover targeting resistance fighters,” according to Qandil’s account.
“Assassinating Mughniyeh was the first shot fired in the war planned by those who supported the July war (2006), and they are the United States, the west and their Arab allies. The war was carried out by Israel with the knowledge of Lebanese parties,” he added.
